The Lion and His Story

The exact construction of the “Löwen” is unknown, but it is undoubtedly one of the oldest inns in Meersburg.
In the 15th century it was the seat of the mayor Simon Weinzürns, who went down in Meersburg's annals of history as a rebel from Lake Constance because he fought for the citizens' right to have a say in the city's constitution, but lost the fight and was drowned in Lake Constance in 1461. The Löwen was first mentioned as an inn in 1534 and has been called a drinking tavern for around 400 years.
